Flute Journey Concert in Kansas City

A Flute Journey Concert is a unique mixture of flute music and outdoor adventure storytelling - and this week, I took it on the road to Kansas City!

The audience and staff at the Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center were wonderfully warm, and it was such a pleasure to share the Flute Journey experience with them.

Each adventure story I told was accompanied by the pictures I’ve captured in my travels - and then paired with a favorite piece of flute music to tie it all together.

To me, outdoor adventuring and playing flute music are second nature - and I often forget how unique this love of mine is…

Until I’m on stage sharing my stories and music - and I see the looks of wonder and amazement on their faces.

The Flute Journey Concert opens their eyes to an experience that is brand new to them - a completely different way to digest classical music.

In my opinion - a more accessible way.

Especially to folks who have an interest in nature and outdoor adventuring.

There were people in attendance from several walks of life and they all enjoyed different aspects of the program:

One woman was inspired by my courage to get out on these exciting adventures - often alone. She also connected deeply to a piece I played about the darkness of night moving into the light of day.

Another young man enjoyed a piece called Jade that I connected to our capacity to look for green signs of life… even in the dead of winter.

One little toddler boy was so excited by the experience that he tried to climb up on the stage with me as I played! I felt compassion for his mother who was trying to wrangle him, but was also so tickled by his youthful exuberance.

At the end of the evening, I felt energized and fulfilled - and so blessed to have shared my love for music and adventure with an amazing audience.
